I know that this is the time many young people are doing the same. While helping my students fill out applications I thought that this would be a perfect time to discuss the importance of what is perhaps the single most important determining factor of whether you get hired or not: Image.

Annual Ohio Business Women's Conference & Expo is May 16

With last year’s attendance reaching over 500-plus women business owners and entrepreneurs, this year’s event promises to be the largest of its kind in the region for women in business. The Women’s Conference & Expo will take place Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Cleveland Marriott Downtown Key Center located at 127 Public Square.

Summit on artists as catalysts for redevelopment

Cleveland hosts a national summit on artists and the role they can play in revitalizing local economies in Rust Belt cities like Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Milwaukee. The one-day summit on May 14, 2008, From Rust Belt to Artist Belt, is sponsored by the Cleveland-based Community Partnership for Arts and Culture (CPAC).

There were numerous Cinco de Mayo activities between May 2 thru May 5, 2008. Toledo’s Imagenes Mexicanas and El Corazón de México both performed at the Toledo Zoo. Performances were also presented at: Rodgers High School, Woodward High School, Old West End Academy, Playmakers Sports Eatery (Izzy’s annual bash), Carlita’s Restaurant, Toledo Hospital, the City of Toledo, and the East Toledo Senior Center.

Waite and Woodward celebrate Cinco de Mayo

On May 2, Waite High School of East Toledo presented its annual Cinco de Mayo program at an Aud session. The keynote speaker was Emilio Ramírez, principal of Woodward High School. Ramírez is a 1991 graduate of Waite and the second Latino in Toledo to become a principal of a high school—the first was Richard Cervantes.

UT Cancer Center to host ‘Oncology on Canvas’ exhibit

The University of Toledo Cancer Center hosts the art exhibit titled “Oncology on Canvas,” which will be on display on the fourth floor of Mulford Library on the Health Science Canvas from Monday, May 5, at 9 a.m. until noon Thursday, May 8, 2008.

New insights into cause of diabetes emerge from U-M research

ANN ARBOR, May 1, 2008: University of Michigan researchers have new clues to what goes awry at the cellular level in type 2 diabetes. Their results, published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS), challenge conventional views of how the disease is initiated and may lead to development of drugs to treat aging-related diseases, as well as diabetes.
