
Trail Blazer Awards presented to Eason and Torres
The first
Trail Blazer Awards in memory of Sofia Quintero and
Judge Joseph A. Flores were presented on May 3, 2008, by the
Lucas County Hispanic/Latino Democratic Caucus at its annual
Cinco de Mayo Fundraiser.


Waite and Woodward celebrate Cinco de Mayo
On May 2,
Waite High School of East Toledo presented its annual Cinco de
Mayo program at an Aud session. The keynote speaker was Emilio
Ramírez, principal of Woodward High School. Ramírez is a 1991
graduate of Waite and the second Latino in Toledo to become a
principal of a high school—the first was Richard Cervantes.

Center to host ‘Oncology on Canvas’ exhibit
The University of Toledo Cancer Center hosts the art exhibit
titled “Oncology on Canvas,” which will be on display on
the fourth floor of Mulford Library on the Health Science Canvas

New insights
into cause of diabetes emerge from U-M research
ANN ARBOR,
May 1, 2008:
University
of Michigan researchers have new clues to what goes awry at the
cellular level in type 2 diabetes. Their results, published
in the Journal of the American Chemical
Society (JACS), challenge conventional views of how the
disease is initiated and may lead to development of drugs to treat
aging-related diseases, as well as diabetes.


Mexican Mutual Society hosts annual Cinco de Mayo festivities

May 3, 2008. The day started with the 11th Annual Cinco
de Mayo Parade, which featured Mariachi Joya, and ended at Sacred
