Online Workforce Training offered through Tri-C Access Centers

 

CLEVELAND, May 15, 2020: Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) is offering a free online Workforce Success Seminar this summer to expand community access to education and job training during the COVID-19 outbreak.

 

The course is designed to sharpen skills necessary to succeed in the workplace while providing an introduction to the College and its resources. It is part of the ongoing Tri-C Access Center initiative.

 

The online seminar begins June 8 and runs through the first week of August. Participants will:

·         Earn college credit

·         Identify and boost employable skills

·         Get help with career planning, resumé writing and job searching

·         Improve study, time management and problem-solving skills

 

Instruction materials will be available online for self-paced review, with morning and evening sessions with the instructor to go over lessons at designated times during the week.

The course is offered in partnership with Tri-C Access Center hosts, including Esperanza Inc.; The MetroHealth System; and Olivet Housing and Community Development Corp. (OHCDC), an arm of Olivet Institutional Baptist Church.

 

Tri-C Access Centers debuted in 2019 to bring education and job training to neighborhoods gripped by poverty. The sites open doors to opportunity by bringing the college experience into the community.

 

 

Tri-C announces plans to address Financial Impact of COVID-19

 

CLEVELAND, May 14, 2020: Tri-C has announced plans to offset the financial impact of COVID-19 on its fiscal year 2021 budget.

 

The College projects a $25 million shortfall over the next year due to the pandemic. This includes decreases in state funding, enrollment and other revenues, as well as approximately $1 million in additional operational expenses resulting from the coronavirus crisis.

 

In response, the College is taking steps to preserve its long-term financial stability while maintaining its low cost of attendance ― Tri-C has the lowest tuition in the state ― and providing student services that remove barriers and drive student success.

 

“These are difficult times that call for difficult decisions,” Tri-C President Alex Johnson said.  “We are operating in a vastly different environment than we were before the pandemic, and we must adjust to that new reality.”

 

Cost-saving measures for fiscal year 2021, which begins July 1, include:

·         Reductions to the base salaries of the following non-bargaining employees:

 

o    Tri-C President Alex Johnson – 10%

o    Employees with salaries $200,000 or greater – 7%

o    Employees with salaries $150,000 - $199,999 – 5%

o    Employees with salaries $100,000 - $149,999 – 3%

 

·         Deferring FY21 cost-of-living and performance-based increases for non-bargaining employees

·         Offering voluntary separation packages to employees with one year or more of service

·         Implementing strategic staff reductions and consolidations to align with current student and operational needs

 

These actions are in addition to operational efficiency measures already in place, including a hiring freeze; no discretionary spending for College-sponsored travel and business meetings; and delaying campus or facility projects financed through the general operating budget.

 

Details were shared with employees today during a virtual town hall meeting led by Johnson and David Kuntz, Tri-C’s executive vice president of finance and administration. Information on voluntary separation packages, staff reductions and organizational consolidations will be provided as planning moves forward. 

 

Tri-C’s Women in Transition program offers Online Summer Sessions

 

CLEVELAND, May 15, 2020: The Women in Transition program at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) is launching a session of online classes to empower women in their pursuit of education, training, and a career.

 

The five-week program begins the first week of June. Interactive online sessions will take place from 10 a.m. to noon three days a week. One session runs Monday to Wednesday; the other runs Tuesday to Thursday. The noncredit program is free and open to the public.

 

Participants build confidence and skills through classes on personal development, career exploration and computer literacy. The course is designed to assist women in transitional periods of their lives, such as a career change or return to the workforce.

 

This is the first online session for the Women in Transition program. The College shifted all summer classes online to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

Since 1978, Tri-C’s Women in Transition program has contributed to thousands of personal success stories. The goal is to serve 400 women across Northeast Ohio this year.
