Tri-C program focuses on creating inclusive work environments

CLEVELAND: Christopher Coleman was pronounced dead at birth at 8:21 p.m. Oct. 20, 1973. Today, he serves as living proof of a person’s ability to exceed expectations no matter the obstacles and challenges.

Though he struggles with cerebral palsy after spending the first 15 minutes of life without taking a breath, Coleman embraces his disability and the opportunities it provided.

“The challenges, heartaches, prejudices, trials and unfair situations that I have faced have enhanced my life — and equipped me with an amazing ability to motivate and inspire others,” he said.

Hear Coleman’s story at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018 during a National Disability Employment Awareness Month program at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®). The free event will be held at the Jerry Sue Thornton Center, 2500 E. 22nd St. in Cleveland.

Coleman’s visit is part of the College’s 2018-2019 Diversity Speaker Series. His presentation will focus on creating partnerships for an inclusive work environment that welcomes people with disabilities.

Registration is requested given the limited seating for the program. To reserve a seat, visit www.tri-c.edu/chriscoleman or call 216-987-0204.

An opening reception for the program begins at 5 p.m. The event is scheduled to end at 8 p.m.

The College is partnering on the program with the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities and OakLeaf Partners at United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Cleveland.
