The Office of Sustainability and Plan for the future and ‘Going Green’ with town halls

DETROIT: The City of Detroit is taking major strides towards going green since the formation of its office of Sustainability. Since just 2017, the office has identified $400,000 in savings, started tracking the energy of more than 100 buildings, and instituted recycling programs in over 35 city owned properties.

Now, the Sustainability Action Agenda is setting into motion something historic for our city. We will be joining the over 150 cities with a sustainability plan. What makes this more unique is the plan to engage 7,000 individual Detroit residents and create a strategy that includes resident voices like no other that have come before it.

We have the opportunity to learn from city plans all over the world, but having the voice of our residents inform our focus areas will show how sustainability can be equitable and inclusive moving forward. Since phase one we have already engaged thousands of Detroiters with 14 resident ambassadors tasked with talking to their neighbors and gathering true insight.

As we move into phase 2 our town halls will be a unique speaker and data sharing series that engages more residents and provides framing as the Sustainability Action Agenda moves forward.

Detroit is looking for partners to help spread this story and let the community know about this incredible opportunity to help steer Detroit’s path forward. Below are meeting points; RSVP please.
