Gómez graduates in May from St. Francis de
Sales High School and will attend the University of
Toledo this fall where he plans to major in electrical
While in high school, Gómez participated in
LASSO, the school’s Hispanic Club, was a Mock Trial team
member, and played soccer, tennis and basketball. His volunteer
opportunities include being a Summer Youth Employee for the
Believe Center (former Aurora González Center), and St.
Luke’s Hospital, and he worked with Sofia Quintero Arts &
Cultural Center and the Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC).
This scholarship was established by Buckeye
CableSystem and Telemundo, one of the
Spanish-language networks carried on Buckeye. Scholarship
applicants are required to have a
minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and submit an essay
addressing the theme “I’m Proud to be a Latino in Ohio.”

academic year will be available in December. Scholarship awards
are announced in April.
