Zoo opens late on Aug. 10 for Wild Night

On one day only -- Sunday, Aug. 10 -- the Toledo Zoo will be open from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. (last admission), or three hours past the usual closing time, for Wild Night sponsored by The Blade. Wild Night admission is half-price, offering families a great opportunity at remarkable savings. To accommodate these later hours, the Zoo will be closed to the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10 only.

Wild Night includes visitors’ favorite animals and attractions all across the Zoo, including Flamingo Key, Penguin Beach, and ‘Keet Retreat. Flamingo Key, sponsored by Toledo Express Airport, shows off the “avian supermodels” back at the Zoo for the first time in decades. Near Cheetah Valley, Penguin Beach leads you right through the penguins’ exhibit. Just a couple minutes away, ‘Keet Retreat, sponsored by BP, offers a fun walk-through encounter with these bright, friendly little birds (open through 4 p.m.).

Don’t miss the polar bears and seals at the Arctic Encounter®; the giraffes, zebras, wildebeests at the panoramic Africa! exhibit; and the elephants of Tembo Trail. This is a great time to visit Baru, too – the huge saltwater crocodile brought to Toledo by Block Communications, Inc.

In Nature’s Neighborhood, the award-winning children’s zoo, the Stream is open, along with new animals in the Forest Room and an interactive green screen in Jumpin’ Junction.

Additional activities, offered at a separate fee, are family-favorite rides on the Safari Express train, African Animal and historic carousels. The Zoo’s ride passes make these opportunities more affordable than ever.

Wild Night wraps up with a free Music under the Stars concert performed by the Toledo Symphony at 7:30 p.m. in the Zoo's historic Amphitheatre. The concert series is presented by Mercy and The Andersons, and supported by Huntington Bank, Taylor Automotive Family, Health Care REIT, WLMB and Dana.
