EMAIL FOR BEGINNERS: Learn how to transmit messages electronically at Lorain Public Library Systemís Main Library.  Come to Email for Beginners on Monday, Aug. 4 at 2:30 p.m.  Participants will become familiar with email account setup and use.  Theyíll learn how to send and receive emails, attach pictures and documents to emails, and create and use contact lists.  You need to be comfortable using a mouse to attend this program.  Preregistration is required and is available online at LorainPublicLibrary.org or by calling the Main Library at 440-244-1192, ext. 450 or 1-800-322-READ, ext. 450.  The Main Library is located at 351 W. Sixth St. in Lorain.

ZUMBA: Get an effective workout, and have fun while doing it!  Come to Zumba at Lorain Public Library Systemís Main Library on Mondays, Aug. 4 and 18 at 6 p.m.  Join the Zumba workout craze and shed pounds while dancing to merengue, salsa and other hot Latin beats.  Preregistration is required and is available online at LorainPublicLibrary.org or by calling the Main Library at 440-244-1192, ext. 450 or 1-800-322-READ, ext. 450.   

WESTERN ROUNDUP: Calling all cowboys and cowgirls!  Come to Lorain Public Library Systemís Main Library on Thursday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m. for Western Roundup.  Families with children of all ages are invited to gather around the campfire for stories and songs.  Preregistration is required and is available online at LorainPublicLibrary.org or by calling the Main Library at 440-244-1192, ext. 449 or 1-800-322-READ, ext. 449.

INTERNET FOR BEGINNERS: Surfís up this summer at the Lorain Public Library Systemís Main Library Ė in a digital way.  Come to Internet for Beginners on Saturday, Aug. 9 at 3:30 p.m.  Learn how to surf the Web and other Internet basics.  Participants will visit websites and use Internet search engines to find information.  You need to be comfortable using a mouse to attend this program.  Preregistration is required and is available online at LorainPublicLibrary.org or by calling the Main Library at 440-244-1192, ext. 450 or 1-800-322-READ, ext. 450. 

YU-GI-OH! ADVANCED FORMAT TOURNAMENT: Have some fun at Lorain Public Library Systemís Main Library and show off your Yu-Gi-Oh! playing skills.  A Yu-Gi-Oh! advanced format tournament for 8-year-olds to 18-year-olds is Monday, Aug. 11.  Registration will be taken from 4:30 to 4:45 p.m. and is limited to the first 32 players who sign in.  Duelists, please be prepared to fill out a decklist that will be provided.  Tournament time will be from 4:45 to 7 p.m.  Advanced format.  Konami March 1, 2010, banlist will be in effect.  Bring your own cards.  Deck of 40 to 60 cards required and a maximum of three copies per card to play.  Side and extra decks can have up to 15 cards each, if you use them.  If your deck uses tokens, counters, dice, etc., you must bring them.  Card trading is not allowed.  Prizes will be awarded at the end of the tournament.  For more information, call the Main Library at 440-244-1192, ext. 449 or 1-800-322-READ, ext. 449.  

TEEN ADVISORY BOARD: Give back to your community.  Volunteer at Lorain Public Library Systemís Main Library.  Sixth through 12th-graders, come see what Teen Advisory Board is all about at the next meeting at the library on Monday, Aug. 11 at 5:30 p.m.  Youíll have the opportunity to plan various fun activities.  Preregistration is required and is available online at LorainPublicLibrary.org or by calling the Main Library at 440-244-1192, ext. 449 or 1-800-322-READ, ext. 449.

STORY TIME AT LAKEVIEW PARK BEACH: Hit the beach with Lorain Public Library Systemís Main Library.  Come to Sand in your Toes Story Time at Lakeview Park Beach on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 1 p.m.  Lakeview Park is located at 1800 W. FIZZ, BOOM, READ WITH MAD SCIENCE: Enjoy a science program that is as entertaining as it is educational at Lorain Public Library Systemís Main Library.  Summer Reading Program participants are invited to Fizz, Boom, Read with Mad Science on Thursday, Aug. 14 at 6 p.m.  Join Mad Science as they ďgrowĒ an exothermic milkshake.  Donít miss their attempt at poking a needle through a balloon without popping it.  A fire-breathing dragon may even make an appearance on the scene for the grand finale.  This program is provided by a grant from The Stocker Foundation.  You will have to show your summer reading record at the door.  Preregistration is required and is available online at LorainPublicLibrary.org or by calling the Main Library at 440-244-1192, ext. 449 or 1-800-322-READ, ext. 449.  

DIGITAL BOOKMOBILE TOUR STOP AT DOMONKAS BRANCH: A semi carrying Internet-connected computers, the latest tablets and smartphones, and more is coming to Lorain Public Library Systemís Domonkas Branch on Friday, Aug. 15 from 2 to 6 p.m.  The Domonkas Branch is located at 4125 E. Lake Road in Sheffield Lake.  The digital bookmobile is on a national tour and is making this stop in the Lorain Public Library System (LPLS).  Hop on board and learn about the eLibrary on LorainPublicLibrary.org where you can access free eBooks, audiobooks, videos, music and more with your LPLS library card.  Hands-on learning stations in the digital bookmobile will guide you through using these electronic services.  Donít miss this special event.  For more information, visit LorainPublicLibrary.org or call the Domonkas Branch at 440-949-7410.

MOVIE MATINEE FOR YOUNG ADULTS: Watch an Ď80s flick where a couple of high school geeks create an ideal woman using a computer.  Come to the movie matinee for young adults, ages 13 and up, at Lorain Public Library Systemís Main Library on Saturday, Aug. 16 at 2 p.m.  Preregistration is required and is available online at LorainPublicLibrary.org or by calling the Main Library at 440-244-1192, ext. 449 or 1-800-322-READ, ext. 449.
