The Middle Ages in Action: Medieval fighting, fashions, and culture

Come see the Middle Ages in Action! The Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc. (SCA) is scheduled to display and discuss the Middle Ages, a time period in European history from the 5th to the 15th century, on Saturday, July 19, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Sanger Branch Library, 3030 W. Central Ave., Toledo.

Costumed interpreters will display the fighting style and dress of the time and discuss what it would have been like to live during the Medieval period. During the event, Sanger Branch librarians can show you where to search for Medieval books and movies for further knowledge on the Middle Ages. [The Middle Ages cover about 1,000 years--from about AD 500 to about AD 1500.]

SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and recreating the arts and skills of pre-17th Century Europe. Founded in 1966, with over 30,000 current members, the organization consists of 19 “known kingdoms” ruled by a King and Queen, whom “take the throne” after a Crown Tournament. There are also Princes and Princesses, Barons and Baronesses and Knights and Masters-At-Arms. SCA members take Medieval names and dress, and attend feasts and duels in their local communities or nationwide.

For more information call Sanger Branch at 419-259-5370. Registration is not required. For more information on The Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc., visit www.sca.org
