of Civil Rights opens Public Comment for Sign Language
The Michigan Department of Civil Rights and the
Division on Deaf and Hard of Hearing have announced that the
public comment period for the proposed administrative rules:
Qualified Interpreter – General Rules is open until 5:00
p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014.
These rules govern procedures for application, testing,
revocation, suspension or limitation of certification,
continuing education, renewals, and grievances, minimum
credential requirements and levels, and minimum standards of
practice for sign language interpreters. The proposed rules are
published in written and ASL formats on the MDCR and DODHH
A public hearing will be held on the proposed rules on Saturday,
April 5, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until noon at the Michigan School
for the Deaf, 1235 W. Court St in Flint. Signed, oral, written
or ASL video comments may be presented in person at the hearing.
