March 5, 2014: Lorain’s
Mexican Mutual Society (MMS) announced that three
niñitas will be vying for the title of 2014 Cinco de Mayo
Little Queen. According to Marie Leibas, director of
MMS’s Queen Pageant, they are:
• Alessandra Flores, who is 9 years old and she attends
Larkmoor School. Her parents are Amanda Solis and Favio Flores.
Her maternal grandmother is Denise Sánchez and paternal
grandfather is José Pérez. Alessandra is in Girl Scouts and
• Mileena Rivera is 8 years old and she attends Palm
Elementary. Her parents are Amanda and Javier Rivera. Her
maternal grandparents are Monica Cruz and Albert Montañez; her
paternal grandparents are Judith & José Rivera. Mileena likes to
sing, dance, and is learning to play the drums.
Analisse Veliz is 8
years old and she attends Palm Elementary. Her parents are
Maricruz and Christopher Veliz. Her maternal grandparents are
Miriam Fernández and Fernando Aponte. Her paternal grandparents
are Sandra Cruz and Ventura Veliz. Analisse likes to dance and
is in gymnastics and cheerleading.
The Little Queen will be
determined on April 19, 2014. She will reign in MMS’s 17th
annual Cinco de Mayo parade which takes place on May 3, 2014.
The parade starts at 4:15pm at St Francis Church, 2143 Homewood
Drive and ends at the Mexican Mutual Club, 1820 E. 28th
St., where the celebration continues. Little Queen of 2013,
Arianna Rodríguez, will be on hand to assist in the crowning
of the 2014 Queen, Princess, and Duchess at 6:00pm. There will
be comida y música mexicana con DJ Pepe Rivera, a cash
bar, dancing by Alma de México, y piñatas para los niños.
