Zoo offers free
weekend for Lucas County residents Jan. 18 - 20
To thank Lucas County voters for their ongoing levy support, the
Toledo Zoo offers FREE admission to all Lucas County
residents from 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 18 until 4 p.m. on
Monday, January 20, 2014, throughout the Martin
Luther King holiday weekend. Lucas County residents must
show valid proof of residency to receive free admission.
Highlighting the weekend is free access to the Zoo’s new
free-flight butterfly exhibit inside the historic Museum of
Science. Dazzling butterflies from all across the
Americas glide around visitors -- including many species that
visitors would never have a chance to see otherwise. From the
striking zebra longwing to the bright orange gulf fritillary and
multicolored white peacock butterfly, it’s an interactive
experience that inspires visitors about the intrigue of our
In addition to the new butterfly exhibit, Saturday, Jan. 18
features “shocking” fun at the Science Day in Nature’s
Neighborhood. At this award-winning exhibit right next to the
Museum of Science, visitors explore electricity through
interactive, hands-on experiments.
According to the Zoo’s press release, “To make the weekend even
more affordable, Lucas County visitors receive coupons to use
throughout the weekend, plus additional coupons for another Zoo
visit in March.
“All this is the Zoo’s way of thanking Lucas County voters, who
have shown longtime support for the Zoo. Through passage of the
Zoo’s operating levies over the years, the Zoo has been able to
maintain its reputation as a world-class zoological institution
and a top regional attraction.
“…Lucas County’s past support for the Zoo’s Capital Levy has
helped the Zoo create Nature’s Neighborhood (opened in
2009), Tembo Trail (opened in May, 2012), and current
historic Aquarium renovations (scheduled to reopen in 2015).
Generous contributions from private donors to the Zoo’s capital
campaigns have further enhanced these experiences.
The Zoo offers a similar Lucas County Appreciation Weekend over
President’s Day weekend (February 15-17, 2014).
