Poetry Out Loud
is a national recitation contest for students in 9th-12th
grades that began in 2004 and continues to build on the
resurgence of poetry as an art form. Sponsored by the National
Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, Poetry Out
Loud inspires students to learn about great poetry through
memorization, performance and recitation.
School champions will converge in Columbus on March 8, 2014, to
represent their school at the State finals and vie for the honor
to represent Ohio at the National Finals. The Ohio champion
receives $300 and an all-expenses-paid trip (with an adult
chaperone) to Washington, DC, to compete at the Poetry Out
Loud National Recitation Contest, April 28-30, 2014.
