National
Hispanic Heritage Month Events in Lorain:
The Museum of Hispanic and Latino Cultures (Museo de Hispano y
Latino Culturas) and Lorain County Community College’s Latino
club Los Unidos will host “What it means to be Latino,” Sept.
23, 2011 at the St. Joseph Community Center [St. Joe], 205 W. 20th
Street, Lorain, from 6 to 9 p.m. The cultural performance will
include Master of Ceremonies, Dr. Mary Hilaire Tavenner,
speaker and writer of eight books including “Memoirs of a writer
in Puerto Rico.”
Julissa Reyes,
story teller, will be reciting her own poem “What It Means to be
Latino.”
Plus, a youth Aztec Dancing group will finalize the performance.
The Friday cultural performance is part of a three day event in
honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month.
Guillermo Arriaga,
President/Curator of the Museum of Hispanic and Latino Cultures
will have an exhibit of Latin American artifacts at the St.
Joseph Community Center, Sept. 21-23, 2011. He is also
collaborating with Lorain City Schools, that will display their
art there all three days from 10 a.m.- 6p.m.

refreshments will be provided.
Sept 23, Performing Arts Show: 7-9pm in the St Joe’s
Community Center Gould Auditorium.
NOTE: They are still looking for Latino talent including: Poets,
Singers, Musicians, Visual Artist and Folkloric Dancers. The
event is free but they are accepting donations. To perform at
