UT
community to fight violence against
women through V-Week
“Saying the word I was not supposed to say is the thing
that gave me a voice in the world,” proclaimed “The
Vagina Monologues,” author
Eve Ensler.
Through Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, the
University of Toledo will celebrate V-Week
with several events in an effort to stop
violence against women and
girls.
On Wednesday, Feb. 10, find out more about how Ensler’s “The
Vagina Monologues” grew into V-Day, an international
grassroots movement to stop violence against women, by attending
a showing of “Until the Violence Stops” at 8 p.m. in
Student Union Room 2591.
Then join a roundtable discussion with the UT cast members of “The
Vagina Monologues” Thursday, Feb. 11, from 12:30 to 1:30
p.m. in Libbey Hall. Hear why women got involved, what the
experience meant to them, and how friends and family responded.
Diane Docis, coordinator of the UT Sexual Assault and
Prevention Program, will serve as moderator.
The week will end with performances of Ensler’s award-winning
play, “The Vagina Monologues.” Shows will be performed Friday,
Feb. 12, and Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 14,
at 2 p.m. in the Scott Park Auditorium
on Scott Park Campus.
Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for the public and are
available at UT’s Rocket Copy in the Student Union, People
Called Women located at 3153 W. Central Ave., and at the door.
Proceeds will benefit the UT Sexual Assault Education and
Prevention Program.
