MDP Hispanic/Latino Caucus Meeting Feb. 6
Are you interested in Hearing from our Elected Leaders from the
US Senate, State of Michigan and
City of Detroit? If so you don’t want to miss the
Michigan Democratic Party’s
Hispanic/Latino Caucus’s (MDPHLC) membership meeting on
Saturday, Feb. 6th, 2010, from 10 am to 12 noon. The meeting
will take place at Taqueria Mi Pueblo, 7278 Dix Street,
Detroit, 48209. We have
confirmed House of Representatives
Speaker Andy Dillon and have invited U.S.
Senator Carl Levin and
Detroit Mayor Dave Bing.
Senator Levin was asked to share
with us what is occurring in Washington, DC. Many of us are
interested in learning what the final Healthcare bill will look
like that has been debated in the Congress. We also want to know
where Sen. Levin stands on
Congressman Luis Gutiérrez’s
Immigration bill that has drawn a wide range of support from
many constituent groups.
Discussing issues from the State will be
House Speaker Andy Dillon.
Caucus Members may recall Speaker Dillon providing a State
update last year when we were in Detroit and committing to
supporting the Latino Community. The Speaker has also put
together a Gubernatorial Exploratory
Committee and this will be a great opportunity to hear
his thoughts on where he will take
Michigan.
Locally, many have read about the challenges and the unique
opportunities in Detroit. At the meeting you will have an
opportunity to learn what is at stake from Dave Bing, Mayor of
Detroit. As he shared in his inaugural speech, we all must be
part of the Detroit Solution.
Finally, if that is not enough to get you to email an RSVP to
TeamArreguin@gmail.com; the MDPHLC will also
have representatives from Reform Immigration for America and
Detroit Public Schools Reading
Corps initiative. Both of these programs warrant considerably
attention and our hope is to engage members and urge them to get
involved.
Thank you,
Larry C. Arreguin
