PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH: Photographically-based art ranging from
digital photography to
sculptural processes will make an appearance at
Owens Community College as
internationally recognized artist
Debra Davis brings the human
condition, with all its varied implications to life
through computer manipulation, to the Walter E. Terhune Art
Gallery in an exhibit titled “Traveling Notations”, Jan. 11 -
Feb. 13, 2010.
The Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery is located in Owens’ Center
for Fine and
Performing Arts on the Toledo-area Campus in Perrysburg
Township.
Davis’ artistic expressions are recognized internationally for
capturing the human journey with all its bumps that are caused
by uncontrollable events in society. She incorporates digital
photography, video, video stills, drawing,
creative writing and sculptural
processes throughout her artwork, interweaving the “found” with
the “created”.
A Pace Eminent Scholar Award winner, her most recent work has
been based on sensory input, climatic shifts and evidentiary
verification, coupled with the human dichotomies of life such as
weight/lightness, presence/absence and freedom/constraint.
Her photographically-based art has been exhibited both
nationally and internationally. Davis has also received various
awards throughout her career highlighted by two
International Faculty Development
Awards to Prague, Czech Republic
from USAC and the University of Toledo.
Davis currently serves as the Chair for the Department of Art
and a Professor of Art in New Media at the University of Toledo,
where she has taught both digital and traditional
photographic processes to
include Time-Based Digital Media, Photographic Alternatives and
