Acclaimed Spanish
guitarist Maestro Soler to speak, perform at Owens, Oct. 22-23
PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP: A cosmopolitan mix of Spanish and Latin
American guitar sounds that spans the eras from contemporary to
jazz, swing and be-bop will fill the air at Owens Community
College’s Center for Fine and Performing Arts as internationally
acclaimed Spanish guitarist Francesc de Paula Soler takes to the
stage on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009.
Presented by the Department of Communications, Humanities and
Languages and the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at
Owens, Soler’s free recital is taking place in conjunction with
the College’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and will
occur at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts
Mainstage Theatre on the Toledo-area Campus.Admission to the
event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
Known as “The Poet of the Guitar”, Maestro Soler is
internationally recognized for his masterful guitar performances
to the point that critics arguably hail him as one of the most
notable names in the guitar world. Maestro Soler began to study
the guitar at a young age and received the highest honors for
his talents from the prestigious Conservatorio Superior de
Música in Barcelona, Spain. He continued his postgraduate work
with Andrés Segovia and also received guitar orientations from Narciso
Yepes.
Prior to his Friday performance, Maestro Soler will share
insight into his musical background as part of a free guitar
master class workshop and demonstration on Thursday, Oct. 22 at
2 p.m.
Later that same day(Oct. 22), the international artist will
provide a free music-supported lecture in Spanish titled
“Literatura y Música Hispana a Través de la Historia” at 7 p.m.
Both events will take place in the College’s Mainstage Theatre
and are open to the public.
