Michigan Roundtable hosts conference addressing racial inequity
The Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion holds
a conference titled “Opportunity for All: Inequity, Linked
Fate and Social Justice in
Michigan” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 30, 2009 at the Charles
H. Wright Museum of African American History,
315 East Warren Ave., in Detroit.
Opportunity for All
examines the recently completed report of
Dr. John A. Powell,
executive director of the Kirwan
Institute for The Study of Race and Ethnicity at The Ohio
State University. Powell’s report reviews the historic
discrepancies in the opportunities offered to whites and people
of color in metro Detroit and
offers insight into how the region can recognize and reconcile
that past.
Local personalities will be featured as speakers including:
Heaster Wheeler, Executive Director of the Detroit Branch -
NAACP and Judge Linda V. Parker of the
Wayne County Circuit Court.
This conference seeks to develop a community-based network to
establish an action plan to promote equity for all, build
relationships for social justice
and create sustainable communities
vital to the region’s economic future.
