Imagenes Mexicanas showcased
in Winter Festival Recital
Despite the snow and wind, Ballet
Folklorico Imagenes Mexicanas had a successful Winter Festival
Recital on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008 at its base, the Perrysburg
Heights Community Center, Perrysburg OH.
Over 150 attended to watch some
30 dancers, dancing the cultural steps with music from México’s
Veracruz, Nuevo León, Michoacan, Chiapas, Tamaulipas, Guerrero,
Sinaloa, Jalisco, and the Yucatan. |

Yvonne Ramos and company also
performed.
With the help of its artistic
directors Raquel Rodríguez, James Serda, and Aaronica Bivins,
this 12-year old dance troupe is managed by Anita Serda and
President Trina Myers.
Ms. Serda informed La Prensa, “The dancers work very hard not
only to learn the dances, but to understand Mexican culture
through discipline and building friendships. On behalf of the
dancers and parents, I would like to thank everyone who came to
see our interpretation of Mexican Folkloric Dance; we are
blessed to have such wonderful support.”
Its dancers include: Catalina
Montoya, Dorian Myers II, Antonio Oviedo, Graciella Torres, Lia
Estrada, Christopher Torres, Cecillia Stamper, Alliciana García,
Rebeca Aguilar-Torres, Miguel Martínez II, Erika Duarte; Daisy
Cantu, Federico Garza, Marisol Sánchez, Raquel Rodríguez,
Danielle Miranda, Anjelina Guillen, Marivell Torres, Vanessa
Rodríguez, Ethan Little-Deer; Ashley Simmons, Sierra Evans,
James Serda, Tiffany Evans, Aaronica Bivins, Analicia Santos,
Maya Mineoi, Cierra Myers; and Juan Duarte, Elicia Hickman.
Serda also informed La Prensa, “I
personally want to thank all the parents of the dancers in our
group for all their hard work and dedication as well as all our
supporters who are committed to the advancement of our youth.
“Many individuals with no kids in
the group helped with donating supplies, seamstresses donating
their time to make repairs, new costumes and parents making
braids and hosting make-up workshops—all of this help encourages
our youth and demonstrates true community partnering.”
Ballet Folklorico Imagenes
Mexicanas will be finishing the year off with two more
performances: Blessed John Catholic Church in Perrysburg on
December 12th for the Celebration of the Virgen de Guadalupe and
on the afternoon of December 27th at the Toledo Art Museum
(Gallery Room) for their Winter Legacies.
On Dec. 31, 2008, the Perrysburg
Heights Community Center will be hosting a New Year’s Dance,
with La Familia Band from Toledo and direct from Texas Los Badd
Boyz del Valle. Tickets are $15.00 pre-sale and $20.00 at the
door, which will include free party favors, snacks, and free
raffles of t-shirts and CDs.
On Jan. 3, 2009, the group will
be hosting an open enrollment for new dancers desiring to join
the group; registration begins at 9:00 am at the Perrysburg
Heights Community Center.
The dancers are making plans for their performance at Lyon
College for Diversity Week in Arkansas on January 20-23, 2009.
