According to member Jeanette Díaz, the members “generate
topics, invite speakers, coordinate logistics, and promote the
events. The level of commitment needed to be an active New
Leader varies, from offering programming ideas to acting as
event chair to coordinating marketing efforts.”
“Our
programming initiatives include our evening series and
Dialogues on Leadership,” said Díaz, and “for this reason,
we have included the event on Oct. 24, 2008 which will
discuss the role of Latinos in this year’s election. It begins
at 5:30PM.”
As a
New Leaders member she thought it important to address the
Latino community’s impact during this year’s presidential
election. “That is the reason why the forum was created—to
involve the Latino community (and other communities) in an
educationally friendly debate and on the issues affecting our
community,” Díaz informed La Prensa.
Friday’s panel discussion—entitled “The Hispanic Community’s
Impact on the 2008 Election”—features David Arredondo,
Director of International Student Services at Lorain County
Community College and former Chairman of the Lorain Area
Republican Party, and José Torres, Deputy Legal Counsel
for Ted Strickland, Governor of State of Ohio. The debate
moderator will be Jorge Delgado, Director of
International Relations for the Cleveland Foundation.
Díaz worked on this Friday’s program with Stephanie Morales
(Collateral Release Supervisor, COIS Associate Leadership
Program for National City Corporation), Angela Maldonado
(Administrative Assistant for Fund for Our Economic Future), and
other City Club New Leaders members and staff.
