Real ID
subject of ACLU’s annual event
Raneta Lawson
Mack,
professor of law at
Creighton
University and Toledo native, will be the keynote speaker at the
ACLU Northwest Ohio Chapter’s annual dinner and meeting on
Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Toledo Club,
235 14th
Street.
Mack as an expert on technology and legal issues will present the
keynote address, “One Nation, Under Surveillance”.
The Real ID Act of 2005 requires all states to adopt a national
identification system for driver’s licenses and requires that
personal information of all U.S.-Americans be stored in a massive
database. The law provides no protections for the data and does
not even require that the personal information be encrypted to
protect it from identity thieves.
The chapter will also honor prominent
Toledo
defense attorney Alan S. Konop for his years of service to
the community.
The event begins at
6:00 p.m. with a cash bar. Dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m.,
followed by presentation of awards, election of board members, and
the keynote address at
8:00 p.m.
Reservations needed. Cost is $40.00 per person for dinner and
program, $10.00 per person for program only. No tickets are
issued for the event; reservations are held at the door.
Reservations may be made online at
www.acluohio.org,
or by calling (216) 472-2220.
