In May 2007,
the Chapter had announced intentions to complete its eligibility
requirements and remove “chapter in formation” status within 18
months and to join the 32 existing chapters in U.S.A. and Puerto
Rico, and a family of 7000 active members nationwide.
“I am here to
tell you we are ahead of schedule and it is all due to your
continuous support,” said Artemio San Martin, President of
NSHMBA Cleveland.
San Martin
thanked guests, corporate sponsors and partners for their
continued support in, “successfully bringing one of the nation’s
most prestigious Hispanic organizations to Northeastern Ohio.”
He said the
chapter is committed to establishing relationships with
organizations in both corporate and nonprofit sectors and
providing a networking platform that will increase recruitment
Latino professional, and provide leadership training and research
development. A prime example of strong relationship is with the
Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Plummer
emphasized the need for more Latino and minority representation in
Executive and Management positions at the Clinic. “NSHMBA exists
to make an immediate impact on the visibility of Hispanic
professionals, MBQA and students in North East Ohio by fostering
Hispanic leadership,” she said.
The Cleveland
Clinic currently has a 2 percent representation of Latinos in its
workforce. Dr. Plummer said the Clinic is committed to developing
its workforce to represent the regions diverse demographics and
that begins with increasing minority representation in management
and executive leadership. “We are looking for talent, and planning
not just for today but for tomorrow’s healthcare needs,” she said.
Education
development is another key tenant of the organization and in 2007
NSHMBA provided over $1million in financial assistance to
outstanding Latinos pursuing a Master of Business Administration
(MBA).
“Its great to
have the chapter here now because it makes the Hispanic talent in
the region visible and its great to meet other accomplished
Hispanics and be inspired by them,” said Stephanie Morales.
Maru Tapia,
Regional Vice President came from Dallas, Texas to celebrate the
chapter’s achievement and said the group has much to be proud of
and many more exciting things to look forward to. She said the
chapter will be a wonderful platform for professionals to network
and step up representations in Fortune 500 companies that actively
recruit from NSHMBA members.
Tapia said
while most companies and organizations are feeling the effects of
a slumping economy NSHMBA’s national revenue has grown by 18
percent.
NSHMBA
Cleveland’s membership is open to everyone interested and has
grown to 130 in the last year. “I invite you to discover all that
NSHMBA Cleveland has to offer to each of you and join us as we
continue building this legacy for our community,” said San Martin.
Representatives of local partnering organizations and leading
sponsors were presented with awards from NSHMBA Cleveland.
