More than 30,000 are diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes every
year. In the
United States,
there are over 20 million people with diabetes and about 200,000
children are diabetic. Type 1 diabetes cannot be controlled with
diet and exercise. To stay alive, type 1 diabetics must have
insulin either through an injection or intravenous pump. Diabetes
costs our nation over $130 billion dollars annually.
JDRF gave over a billion dollars to research that improved the
lives of people with diabetes and ultimately will lead us to a
cure. JDRF is proactively driving the discovery, development and
delivery of therapeutics to improve the lives of people with
diabetes today and to ultimately find a cure.
