Dalai Lama to give special teaching in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, March 16, 2008: Unless recent events in Tibet sidetrack his Holiness, the 14^th Dalai Lama is scheduled to appear on April 19 and 20, 2008, in Ann Arbor, to teach “Engaging Wisdom and Compassion.” 

The Dalai Lama called for an international investigation into Communist China’s crackdown against protesters in Tibet, which his Holiness said is facing a “cultural genocide” and where his exiled government said 80 people were killed in violence. The demonstrations were the fiercest challenge to Beijing’s communist rule in the region in nearly two decades, leading to sympathy protests elsewhere and embarrassing China ahead of its Olympic Games.

session April 20, is jointly sponsored by Jewel Heart (www.jewelheart.org), The Tibet Fund (www.tibetfund.org), and the Garrison Institute (www.garrison.org).

The Dalai Lama is recognized worldwide for his compassion and tolerance, his promotion of human rights and inter-religious understanding, peace through non-violent conflict resolution and advocacy for the environment. Winner of the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize, the Dalai Lama was the recent recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal.
