sobre diversidad ofrece recursos al Portal de la Universidad de
Michigan
ANN ARBOR: La Universidad de Michigan, UM lanzó el nuevo Sitio de
Internet, La diversidad Importa en
Michigan, hoy, lunes.
El sitio, ofrecido en el Portal de la Universidad de Michigan
www.umich.edu,
tiene 80 páginas con numerosos programas e iniciativas, académicas
y no académicas, individuos, grupos y otros recursos disponibles
para avanzar y sostener una comunidad diversa y acogedora.
“La estructura de la programación de diversidad de la Universidad
de Michigan es única dentro de la educación superior. Es parte de
nuestra vida diaria, incluida en cada escuela, facultad y
departamento”, dice Lester P. Monts, vice decano principal
para Asuntos Académicos. “El Sitio de Internet, Diversidad Importa
en Michigan ayudará a avanzar
estos esfuerzos haciendo estos recursos más asequibles a todos.
También ofrece la oportunidad de compartir información sobre
nuestro extenso servicio a la comunidad y la ayuda al sistema
educacional K-12 y programas de preparación en las comunidades más
allá de la universidad".
La Diversidad Importa en Michigan
también ofrece información y recursos de las 19 escuelas y
facultades y centros no curriculares. Estudiantes, facultad y
recursos de personal, investigaciones e informes, la historia de
la diversidad en la Universidad, información sobre eventos de
actualidad y temas legales relacionados con la diversidad en la
educación superior se incluyen entre las ofertas de este sitio.
El Sitio de Internet Diversidad Importa en
Michigan responde a las
recomendaciones entregadas en el informe final del grupo especial
de trabajo de la UM, Huellas de Diversidad presentado el 15 de
marzo de 2007.
“Diversidad Importa en Michigan
demuestra claramente la continua fuerza y vitalidad de la
diversidad en la Universidad", dice la decana Teresa
Sullivan,
que presidió el grupo especial de trabajo con Monts.
"Pensamientos, identidades y culturas diversas, intereses y
orígenes, disciplinas académicas e ideales subrayan la excelencia
académica que otorga el conocido prestigio a esta universidad.
Este nuevo sitio es sólo uno de varios esfuerzos actualmente en
progreso que avanzan para asegurar nuestra diversidad".
Diversidad Importa en Michigan fue
desarrollada en colaboración con la Oficina del Decano, la Oficina
de la Vicepresidencia de Comunicaciones y el Consejo de Diversidad
de la oficina del Presidente.
“Estamos entusiasmados que este nuevo Sitio ofrece una entrada a
individuos interesados más allá de nuestra comunidad
universitaria”, dice el director del Consejo Anthony Walesby,
decano asistente y Director de la Oficina de Equidad Institucional
de la UM. "Ańadiremos contenido y capacidad a este sitio de manera
continua y estamos considerando una plataforma interactiva por
línea para intercambiar ideas e información sobre las mejores
prácticas”.

New Diversity Matters at Michigan
Web site provides portal to resources

The University of Michigan has
launched the new Diversity Matters at Michigan Web site.
Available on the University Gateway at
www.umich.edu,
the 80-page site provides a portal to the scores of curricular and
extra-curricular programs and initiatives, individuals and groups,
and other resources available to advance and sustain a welcoming and
diverse community.
“The structure of diversity programming at the
University of Michigan is unique
within higher education. It is part of our everyday life, woven into
the fabric of each school, college, and unit,” said Lester P.
Monts, senior vice provost for academic affairs. “The Diversity
Matters at Michigan Web site will help advance these efforts by
making those resources more accessible to everyone. It also provides
an opportunity to share information about our extensive community
service and K-12 outreach and pipeline programs with the communities
beyond the University.”
Diversity Matters at Michigan also
features information on resources based in the University’s 19
schools and colleges, and in non-curricular units and centers.
Student, faculty, and staff resources, research and reports, the
history of diversity at the University, information about current
news and events and diversity-related legal issues in higher
education round out the site's offerings.
The Diversity Matters at Michigan Web site responds to a
recommendation by the Diversity Blue Prints
Task Force in its March 15, 2007 final report.
“The Diversity Matters at Michigan Web site clearly demonstrates the
continued strength and vitality of diversity at the University,”
said Provost Teresa Sullivan, who co-chaired the task force
with Monts. “Diverse thought, identities and culture, interests and
backgrounds, academic disciplines, and ideals underlie the academic
excellence for which the University is renowned. This new site is
just one of several efforts currently moving forward to ensure our
excellence.”
Diversity Matters at Michigan was
developed as a collaboration by the Office of the Provost, the
Office of the Vice President for Communications, and the President’s
Diversity Council.
“We are excited about the access this new site provides to
interested individuals in the University community and beyond,” said
council Chair Anthony Walesby, assistant provost and senior director
of the U-M Office of Institutional Equity. "We will add content and
capability to the site continuously, and are considering an
interactive online platform to exchange ideas and information about
best-practices."
